Information from the web is hardly ever subject to intense scrutiny by the majority of its users whose assumptions are seemingly that information is information is information. I think it is often the case that, as information-gathering is the first step to completing tasks involving many other more time-consuming steps, issues pertaining to the quality of that information, if not immediately reconciliable, are simply left aside in order to proceed with the project at hand.
