Borrowing an example from Wallace (1999:24) who descried the anonymity of the Unabomber, had he explicitly made known his identity and later, his intentions, prior to sending bombs to computer scientists, he would have been prevented from doing so. The fact that he could do so was due to the fact that he was unknown to the public and therefore nothing that he does or intends could be attributable or traceable to him. He could, by hiding behind the guise of anonymity, engage in reprehensible actions and avoid reprisals, at least up until the time his luck ran out.
