Brief Profile : Member of Knights, an all guys' rollerhockey team.
Brenda Tay stood out from the crowd. There was no doubt about that. A part-time model and resident chart-topper on every living, breathing male undergrad’s hit list, , she had long, straight, jet-black tresses, sensuous bee-stung rosebud lips and slender alluring legs. The whole package had men mesmerized, had them reduced to their knees. She never had to do the rounds of photo-copying readings from reference material in the library—someone always had these prepared for her; nor did she ever have had to do any assignment, essay or research project—again, there’d be someone who’d make the necessary sacrifices so Brenda would have something to hand in come the deadline. Brenda had an effect on us men. Brenda drove us crazy. Brenda was also my targeted flavour-of-the-month, if you know what I mean.
She’s the reason I am here at NUS today in the middle of our midyear holidays, at 10am in the morning on the 15th of June. We were having lunch Friday last week when suddenly Brenda’s cute little face contorted into a frown. And although I knew she wanted me to ask her what’s wrong, (my experience with the facial expressions of the opposite sex is by no means limited), I did anyway.
Brenda happened to be the chairperson of the NUS’ inline hockey committee (she was elected by popular vote, a hands-down victory) and the committee had organized a series of two-hour courses to introduce the sport to first-year undergrads attending the Freshmen Orientation Camp. For some reason, there would not be enoughinstructors on the first day of the course. That was how I got roped in to do this.
